Legislator of the Week

Throughout this state legislative session, we’ve been naming a Legislator of the Week as often as we have someone to highlight. We're giving some well deserved praise to folks in Olympia taking positive steps towards helping us increase affordable homes and end homelessness. This week, we're happy to recognize 28th District Representative Steve O’Ban (R-Pierce County) for his strong support of the Fair Tenant Screening Act, which will be signed by the Governor today.

The Senate Budget Will Cause More Homelessness and Harm the Most Vulnerable

The Senate Operating Budget, which passed Friday night 30 to 18, is a cruel proposal that balances itself on the backs of the poor by eliminating and radically reducing funding for the many programs that they rely on. Budget writers in the Majority Caucus Coalition justified these drastic cuts with the suggestion that non-profit organizations will pick up the slack and fill the service gap left by these reductions. This is not how I believe we should be running our government.
